Within just three days, the crowdfunding for the production firm Optimist’s Ethereum documentary feature-film, titled “Ethereum: The Infinite Garden,” has raised about $1.9 million worth of Ether (ETH), or precisely 1,035 ETH from 662 backers worldwide. Notably, Optimist initially targeted to raise “only” 750 ETH for the particular film project, with about 5% of the total proceeds heading directly to Gitcoin Grants and carbon offsets to aid other open-source Ethereum-based initiatives.
As per the filmmakers, the Ethereum documentary will highlight the origins of the second most prominent crypto by featuring extended interviews with Vitalik Buterin and Aya Miyaguchi, the Ethereum creator and the head of Ethereum Foundation, respectively. The upcoming film’s official Twitter page then revealed that filming with the two executives started even before the crowdfunding project started. While casting and development are still in the early stages, the filmmakers are striving to release the documentary this late 2023.
Because the film’s crowdfunding was performed on the crypto-based blogging platform Mirror and through non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, backers will be rewarded proportionally to how they contributed – much like the rewards model of other crowdfunding sites Patreon and Kickstarter. The film’s backers will notably receive crypto collectibles on varying rarity and 1,000 $INFINITE tokens for every ETH they contribute, which they can then use to participate on the film’s private Discord server. Lastly, Optimist discourages reselling of the $INFINITE token.
